Cultural Anthropologist, Ethnomusicologist and Pianist. For many years curator of the Museum of the Cultures in Basel. Founder and Co-director ofthe International Festival "Music of the World in Basel" (1996: Indonesia-Festival). Since 1991 leader of the Bali-Basel Artist Exchange Program. Winner of the Dharma "Kusuma Cultural Award" (Gold Medal) of Bali in 1996. Co-director of the "Catur Yuga"-Project: Bali-Swiss-German visual
artists, musicians and dancers in Denpasar, Jakarta, Singapore and Basel. Many exhibitions and books on Balinese culture and music.
Jazz musician (piano, trombone) since 1957. Sideman in Big Bands and leader of groups with internationally well-known musicians: Isla Eckinger, Andy Scherrer, Peter Schmidlin and Joel Vandroogenbroeck. Trio with Dominik Schuermann and Florian Arbenz for almost 3 years.
Florian Arbenz, Drums
Musician. Studies and diplomas in percussion at the Basel Music Academy. Awards for teaching music, for playing solo and in orchestras. Plays
regularly with the Basel Percussion Ensemble, in the Basel Symphony-Orchestra and in the Chambre Orchestra of Zuerich. Concerts and tours withinternationally acclaimed Jazzmusicians: Greg Osby, Kirk Lightsey, Glenn Ferris, Bennie Maupin, Wolfgang Puschnig, Matthieu Michel and Claudio
Pontiggia. Solo-Concerts all over Europe, in Cuba and South America.
European Cultural Award for excellence in promoting and playing Jazz and Classical Music in 2000.
Dominik Schuermann, Bass
Musician. Piano studies, harmony and Jazzimprovisation at the Basel Music Academy. Starts playing bass with 18 years, with internationally acclaimed bass player Roman Dylag. Being an accomplished allrounder, D.S. feels at home in traditional as well as in contemporary Jazz forms and styles, in Blues and Latin music.
Many gigs with young Swiss Jazz Lions like Paul Brodbeck, Walter Jauslin, David Klein or Domenic Landolf, with Hungarian Pianist Robi Lakatos, and international cracks like Thomas Moeckel, Oscar Klein, Gary Barone, Jim Galloway or Sam Burckhardt.
